Launch of the Second Phase of “Start and Improve Your Business” Program in Homs to Empower Youth and Support Entrepreneurship
The second phase of the
internationally accredited “Start and Improve Your Business
(SIYB)” program, supported by the International Labour Organization
(ILO), was launched on Sunday at the Harmony Syriac Cultural Center in Homs, in
cooperation with Nahro Development Association. The program aims to empower
young people and strengthen their entrepreneurial skills.
Turning Ideas
into Practical, Market‑Ready Projects
The current training courses focus
on helping youth develop their ideas and transform them into practical
projects, while also improving existing businesses through structured
feasibility studies that enhance economic viability and sustainability. The
training targets 20 participants
seeking to create impactful and feasible business ideas.
Two Training
Tracks: Idea Generation and Business Improvement
Trainer Alissar Nafouj from the
ILO explained that the program is built on two main tracks:
Generating
ideas and converting them into actionable business plans
Improving
existing projects by identifying weaknesses and addressing them
She emphasized that the program
equips young people with the tools needed to enter the labor market effectively
and teaches them how to evaluate ideas to ensure profitability and long‑term
success.
Networking
and Capacity Building for Real Opportunities
Riham Kasouha, head of the Homs
team at Nahro Development Association, highlighted the importance of
coordination and networking in creating real opportunities for youth. She noted
that cooperation with the ILO provides a valuable platform for exchanging
expertise and building capacities that benefit the community.
Participants’
Experiences: A Step Toward Future Success
Several trainees expressed the
program’s positive impact. Yazan Khalil said the training helped him organize
his ideas in preparation for launching his project, while Kamal Nadaf described
the program as essential for young people, offering practical tools that boost
their confidence in building successful future businesses.
An
International Program Supporting Small Enterprises
The program, which began in mid‑February,
is part of a global training initiative supported by the ILO. It aims to
promote the creation and development of small enterprises as a strategic
approach to generating employment opportunities and improving the quality of
life for both women and men.
